Site Visit with Cinematic Device:
Below are the images that I captured using the panoramic rotation device. I created sets of four different portrait panoramic perspectives of different spots within Imperial Lane. I am leaning more towards situating my design within this location because I think this space has a lot of potential in which I can design it to make it feel safer for those who need it and its easy access to both Fort Lane and Queen Street. These image sequences reveal the degraded brick and concrete, and also effectively emphasises the vastness and darkness of the space - all making it feel less safe. I thought this was an interesting way to map the site as it also gives a perspective of what the experience would be like if you could see behind you, which would be a useful tool in unsafe environments and situations.
I printed these image sequence sets out and shaped them into dome-like structures to create a 3D model of certain viewpoints mapped within imperial lane. You can view these perspectives on both the exterior and interior of the models.
Historical Image Compositions
After the presentation of the history of Fort Lane prior to the site visit on Monday, I felt inspired to investigate and compare how the area within and surrounding the site has changed since the 1900's. I found historical photographs that were taken near lower Queen Street and found the exact locations and took photos. I then took the old and new images to photoshop and combined them to gain a greater understanding of how these environments mesh together and tried to visualise this shift of time.
Image 1: Corner of Fort Street and Gore Street, 1989
Image 2: Roxy Theatre, 50 Queen Street, ~1930s
Image 3: Fort Street East down Fort Street from Gore Street intersection, ~1920s
Image 4: Fort Lane from Fort Street, 1914
Composition Image:
This image depicts a composition of the long exposure photos that were taken of the red lighting that is scattered throughout Fort Lane/Imperial Lane. This edit is meant to evoke the frightful feelings and haziness that I associate with the site and the activities that typically take place in the surrounding environment (bars/night-clubs). I feel very on-edge and anxious when walking in these areas and I also wanted the blurriness of these images to give a feeling of rushing to leave.
